Hi FRED  I do have a rocking chair that meets your description of a Black forest rocking chair with the gargoyle in the center splat. He is quite ugly and spooky. The wood is dark and has an old patina on it which i have not touched. It has a label on the bottom which is partly lost. It says Hubbard---chair #8  Made in Rochester  New York.
