Question
I live in Houston,TX and I can not find someone to repair the glass in my curio cabnet. They say because it has curves they can't do it. Do you know of anyone in houston that repairs glass in antiques? One other question, what is the best oils to put on and polish with?  thanks

Answer
Hi Karen
I live in Ontario Canada, and would have no idea where in Texas to get this glass replaced.
Its unfortunate the glass was broken.
You mention getting it repaired Karen, but you mean replaced I imagine because this glass cannot be repaired after breaking.
Now..A suggestion to your problem (for what its worth:-)
My neighbour broke a side panel of this curved glass out of her china cabinet. She could find no one to replace it, so I took a piece of plexi glass and cut it to fit.
Plexi glass bends very nicely and cuts easily with a utility knife.
This "quick fix" is impossible to tell from the real thing.
That was 4 years ago Karen and it still looks great.
I do know that the glass you require is being reproduced today, but its very expensive. The plexi glass I used cost only $20.00.
Hope this helps
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
