Question I just purchased a horse trike. The antique dealer said it looked vintage to her, and the seller was honest. It cost $265. I looked it over well and, after the fact, looked it up on ebay. There is an almost identical one at a bid price of $61 so far! I don't know what to look for to see if he is original or not. Can you help me? His saddle is leather, complete with stirrups, there are no holes on his belly, and the wheels have wood inside the rims. I might be able to send a picture if you want. Thanks. Kathy
Answer Even without seeing a photo, I'll tell you the trike is not authentic. Real antique horse trikes are so rare that you usually will only find them in museums. There are thousands of fakes out there that look old. Even with rusted wheels and other hardware but they're produced by machine in the Asian countries. You can pick them up for as little as $50.00.
