Question
Hi, I would appreciate any help you can give.
I acquired my grandmothers dining room set, bed
and hopechest. I know its old because of pictures
back in the 1920's-30's but how do I find out who
made it and what type it is?  I tried to look on
internet but it was overwhelming, your site seemed the most knowledgeable.  Anyways, I hope you can steer me in the right direction for information on my new hobby.
Thank you so much.

Answer
Hi Patty
Nice to hear from you.
We have an expert on this site who may help you.
Unfortunately this question is out of my line as I am in Canada and also I lack the knowledge in this area.
But like you I love old furniture and finding out all I can about it.
The gentleman who may help you is Fred Taylor. You will find him on the same page you found me.
I wish you sucess with your new hobby.
Also books are a great place to find out about our old things too.
Kindest regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
