Question
pewter plate 40cm across at its widest. crude ?masonic wheel engraving with initials FJH and date 1789 on top edge. Touchmarks on the back appear to be a chequered shield with 1784 over the top and another mark showing a man with his hands on his hips standing next to a tree / branch/ weapon with the number 84. Thank you for any information.

Answer

Continental European - I cannot be more specific without spending days (literally) searching all the references on marks for a match. Dates are consistent, so probably authentic, though I cannot be certain of this.
