Question
My neighbor threw out a mahagony association inc #125 desk that is is great condition.  Would you know if the manufacturers are still in business?   I was curious about how old this piece of furniture would be.  It looks like it might have been made in the thirties.

Answer
Hi Denise
Nice to hear from you.
Here is a quote from an antique site that I found a while ago.
Hope its helpful...
"The Mahogany Association was a trade association sponsored by furniture makers in the early 20th century who used "genuine mahogany" in their products rather than other hardwoods such as birch and gum that had been colored with an aniline dye to make them look like mahogany. The Association ceased business in 1969 so based on that single clue your tables could have been made anywhere from about 1905 to 1968. "
Kindest Regards

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
