Question
Hello,I have an antique chair that is rather large stuffed with horsehair it has the ball feet and lionsclaw arm..I don't know much about it.It was given to us about thirty-five yrs ago.The fabric is worn and needs to be replaced,,When we have it re-done,are they to use the horsehair..I want to retain any value it may have if any..What type of person should we look for someone who specializes in antiques or just a reg. uphol..Thanks

Answer
Hi Janet
Nice to hear from you.
A reputable upholestry shop will be able to do this job.
It will be your choice to retain the old stuffing, but personally I would have it replaced and not worry about "value" being reduced.
I had an old chair like this done a few years back and wish now I had put in fresh new stuffing for comforts sake.
But certainly ask the expert who will do the job his opinion as this is only mine.
Kindest Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
