Collectibles-General (Antiques)/old globe map

Question
Hi Eileen, wondering if you could help me. A nabour gave me a globe that was standing outside in rain and wind. Don't think it's an antique. Being an artist myself I'm looking for a picture of an old globe map to use "just as a basic" to paint it. I don't need it to be a priceless item, just want it to look good again. I don't have the money to take it to a restorer. It's been standing for over 2 years now since I can only find the newer maps. Can you perhaps tell me where I can find such a picture, just want to use the basics and change it to my liking? Thank you. Petru

Answer
Hi Petru
Nice to hear from you.
What a wonderful project this will be.
I found a huge amount of sites that should have what you want.
Some of the images are a fair size, but you could make them bigger to suit you I hope.
Here are maps.

And here are some actual globes

Now if this is not helpful, a quick trip to the library will absolutely get you the maps you seek.
Good Luck and a great question
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
