Question
Are old trunks, some with curved tops an pictures in the lid worth repair (missing handles, broken iron parts?

Answer
Hi Kent
Nice to hear from you.
Good question.
If you have one of these old trunks you wish to restore for yourself, then its worth the effort.
To restore for resale, its not.
They are labor intensive.
Also expect lots of cut fingers and broken fingernails as they are miserable things to work on.
I am enclosing a link to the best trunk site on the net.
It covers everything you need to know about doing this.
You can also replace any parts from this site, and find out what the restored trunks sell for.

I certainly do not want to discourage you from doing this, and if you have the time to invest, its a good pass time.
Good Luck and thank you for writing

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
