Collectibles-General (Antiques)/penny scale

Question
Dear Mr Knutson,  I would appreciate any info you can provide on a penny scale made by NAVCO.
I have two, one is white with some black and the other is a green (sort of like a green apple color)and some black.  The base, where a person stands on to be weighed, is black and white checker board design.  The base is 12" X 12".  If you look at the scale from the side view it is "L" shaped. The scale stands approx. 46" tall. At the top, the area is black with a window displaying the weight amount, then a mirror, then a slot for the penny.  On the back towards the bottom is an access area for a key to be used to collect the pennies.  I don't have a key.  Also on the back side it states: Ohio Weighing Machine - 2544 Euclid Hts Blvd - Cleveland  Ohio. For Service FAirmount 1-8829.

I would appreciate any info: age, history, does it have any value.

Thank you for your time.

PS: They do work.  We have been using the white one in our masterbath for the past 18 yrs.  It is very reliable.

Answer
Hi Teres,

Great description, thank you. I have a scale also, it sits in a kitchen corner. We have had it there for years also. It's the only coin-op machine that I have ever got to put in the kitchen and it got to stay. I put a slot machine in the kitchen once and found it on the front porch when I got home and a mad wife, but she loves the scale. Before I go digging to find yours, would it be possible for you to send or e-mail a photo of it? My e-mail address is jackpot7@ix.netcom.com
Scale information is hard to find, so a photo would really help if you could send one.
Thank You
Rodger

Expertise

I am an expert on old coin operated machines, slot machines, trade stimulator's, jukeboxes, old arcade machines, etc. I have been identifying these for people who respond to my web site listed below, for a few years now. In almost all cases I am able to tell them about their old coin operated machines, the year, the value, and other general information about their machines. I do not know much about soda vending machines, coin banks, or scales, but I will try to help you with these if I can. Please email photo's to: jackpot7@ix.netcom.com My web site is at: http://www.coinslots.com

Experience

I bought my first slot machine, a .50 Cent Mills Black Cherry in 1969 and have been hooked from that time, I still have that Slot machine! Before that I found a open barrel full of old scraped jukebox wall boxes behind a restaurant, I wanted them all but never took a one of them. Anything that took a coin drove me nuts!
