Collectibles-General (Antiques) - pewter mug

Expert: Martin G Roberts - 7/18/2005

Question
I have a pewter mug with 2 large S intertwined on the front. at the top near the handle is "potosi silver, on th other side of the handle is PINT with a crown underneath the crown are the letters VR and underneath that is 6. Underneath the mug is the words  Lee Arms  Dalston. My question is how much is a mug like this worth and what do the writings mean.

Answer
-

"Lee Arms" will be the name of the public house where it was used, which was in Dalston, a part of London. VR = Victoria Regina and is a capacity verification mark struck in the latter part of her reign (c1890). The 6 tells us it was verified in Birmingham, which is probably where it was made.
