Collectibles-General (Antiques)/pewterlite
Expert: Martin G Roberts - 11/18/2003
QuestionI have a five piece tea set that has "F. B. Rogers" etched in the bottom of each piece. There is also a square sticker that says "Provincetown Pewterlite, F. B. Rogers, Taunton, Mass." Can you tell me how old this is, what the value is, and exactly what pewterlite is and how to care for it? I have searched the Internet and can find hardly anything about any part of the above inquiry. I did find that the F. B. Rogers Co. of Taunton, Mass. was purchased by the National Silver Co. in 1955 and that's all I know. Please add all information that you can. Thank you for your kind contribution of your time and expertise. R. Vincent
Answer-
Sorry, I can't help much. The name is a new one on me. I suspect the items will have been produced in the 1940s or later, and frankly are of little value. Pewterlite MIGHT be a trade name for items made from a modern lead-free alloy, perhaps constructed by fabrication from relatively thin pewter sheet, rather than casting.
Hope that helps
Best regards
Martin
