Question
Hi,
I found a lovely, two shelf folding table the other day that was labeled "duncan phyfe". It does have legs that might indicate that.
A partial label was found on the top shelf that said "supplied to Roos____ Furniture, Forest Park Ill.
Can you give me any info on both?  It is about the size of an end table.
thanks for any direction you might offer. (Certainly, no appraisal!!)

Answer
Hi Janet
Nice to hear from you.
Your table will not be a real Duncan Phyfe.
Duncan Phyfe was born in 1768 and died in 1854.
Your table will be in "the style of Duncan Phyfe".
Anyone actually owning a piece that was made by Duncan Phyfe would be very lucky indeed.
And it would not have a label on it.
Great question
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
