Collectibles-General (Antiques)/table/desk?

Question
I purchased a table/desk at a yard sale and have been looking at it a little closer and think it may be an antique but have no experience in this field.
The table/desk is about 3 ft. high and 6 ft. long. It has three large drawers located under the top and then on top there are built in wooden dividers that look like they would be for paper clips, or such. On either side of the dividers are two built in smaller drawers.
One reason I think this piece may be an antique is that each drawer has an insignia burnt into the bottom that has a flag with a half circle of stars and the number "76" and beneath that it says "Bennington Pine". I have researched Bennington Pine on-line and learned that it was a furniture company in Vermont and burned to the ground in 1965. Because of this mishap I am unable to obtain any further information on this piece.
It is not in good condition and would need loving care by someone who has experience with antiques. I am searching for someone who can tell me the worth of this piece or where I may be able to obtain information.
I live in Nampa, Idaho and have limited access to dealers, etc.
Any information you could provide would be helpful.
Thank you,
Christie

Answer
Hi Christie
Nice to hear from you.
For anyone to evaluate this piece, they would need to see a photo at least.
You say it needs a lot of restoration, and at this point in your desks life it is probably not worth much in that condition.
A genuine antique is usually something 100 years old.
Do you think this desk could be?
I do not know anything about the company other than what you have already found.
I would be happy to see a photo Christie.
Let me know.

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
