Collectibles-General (Antiques)/I think I may have won a Jacobean Dining Set

Question
Hi, I've never been into antiques or fine furniture at all but recently got extra money and needed a table.  I won this gorgeous table, 6 chairs, and server on Ebay.  I found a similar piece, Jacobean china cabinet from a different seller and won that too.  I've sought everywhere for a name on the furniture, but can not find anything.  I just know the name Jacobean because that's what the title included for the china cabinet.  I'm wondering if the table set is also Jacobean.  I know it is at least 70 years old, because the seller's mother had it and now is 96 and had to move into assisted living.  I just love this and the carvings are so beautiful, that it really is hard not to spend too much time admiring it.  Now, that I'm getting sold and hooked on antique furniture, I'd love to know more about this set and possibly find out how to find a matching bedroom set.  THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP OR SITES TO LOOK AT :)

Answer
Hi again Tiff
Thank you for the nice ratings.
Sorry I cannot be more helpful though.
The label should be clearly visible on the underside of the table, or under the chair seats, but having said that, most of the old furniture I restore rarely has any identifying marks.
Hi
Congratulations on your win.
I just did a quick Google search on your behalf and found literally hundreds of sites that reference Jacobean furniture.
Of course your set is only 70 years old so would not be considered an antique but in the style of Jacobean furniture. It will be factory made and mass produced, but having said that I will say that if you like this style and it inspires a love of old things, then thats great.
As far as info, there is no way of getting any when there are no factory labels to tell what furniture company made it.
Hope this helps
Kindest regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
