Subject: vintage darning egg with silver handle

Question
My black darning egg has a silver handle and it looks like silverin is what is written on it.  What does that mean?

Answer
Hello Sarah.  Are you sure the word isn't sterling?  Many ebony darners did have sterling handles.  I've not seen reference to "silverin" in any of my books.  There is a book published dedicated to darners - Darn It!  The History and Romance of Darners  A Price Guide by Wayne Muller.  It was published in 1995.  Barbara
