Question
Hello,
I was wondering if you could help me figure out what type of wood I have for a vintage carved server. It has a light oak color but has many dark dots in the wood. Could me maybe lead me in the right direction? Thank you for your time.
Dina
I found you under ask and expert in google

Answer

There are many on the net. Type in a Google search birds eye maple picture.

Hi Dina
Nice to hear from you.
My guess without seeing your server would be birds eye maple.
This is a wood I do not often see in furniture as these "birds eyes" occur rarely in the growing maple trees.
I am going to look on the net for you to see if I can find a picture of it.
I will post a follow up to your question.
Kindest Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
