Thanks for your question and the nice feedback!  These are very cool pieces and are antenna tuning coil insulators -- they were used on transmitting stations on land and I believe have been used on some ships.  They are very collectible with a value of $125-$150 or so each if in good shape.  I'm not sure of the manufacturer if these - I also have a similar one.  They come in a smaller style as well.  These date from the 1920's into the early 1930s.  Here is a link to some more information:  http://www.nia.org/notins/nons6.htm
