Question
QUESTION: Hi Michael,
I have a box of Hot Wheels that indicates it is the entire 2003 collect with T-Hunts.  I picked it at a Matel Store in California a couple years ago.  It is factory sealed with the tape cracking along the top and may open.
I am curious of the boxes worth and if it might be better to open and sell sets individually?
Thanks

ANSWER: Hi Richard,
There are a bunch of cars that were released in 2003 that had some good value. These were Variations on the normal release cars and are worth more that the Treasure Hunt cars. The only way to know if those cars are in there would be to open the box. It doesn't matter with the "Factor Sealed Set", just be careful not to rip or deface the box.
It's actually the individual numbered packaged cars that are in it that matters. As long as the cars themselves are still in their packaging.
Stop at your local bookstore or go on-line and pick up my latest Hot Wheels price guide, "Hot Wheels Variations, The Ultimate Guide". In there you will be able to tell if you are lucky enough to have some or all of those variations in that boxed set.
Good Luck!
Mike

QUESTION: Thanks, that does help some.  The box I have is a complete 2003 set.  The box number is G3292-9665.  Am I understanding you correctly when you say each car separately is worth more than the complete set?  I believe all the 2003 T-hunts are in this box as well as all sets and specials.  This is what I was told at the Mattel store.  Sorry if this is a bother.

Answer
No Bother Richard, that's why I'm here,
Yes, "if" you have the variations that I mentioned, they could be worth up to $40 or $50 each, if you sold them separately. If you sold them as a complete set you would only be getting $1 each for them including the Treasure Hunts.
You may get $5 to $10 each for the Treasure Hunts. The other cars are very common and will not bring much.
It's all up to you....
