About DaisyBBGunner
Expertise
Please read my entire profile. First, a BB gun or a pellet gun IS NOT A TOY. These must be treated like any loaded gun. Always assume one is loaded and never point it at anything you do not intend to shoot. Especially, never point it at a person. I can answer questions about Daisy products, including age and history. I can give production dates of most Daisy air rifles/BB guns and toys with a degree of accuracy within a year.

Experience
I am an avid collector of products made by the Daisy Manufacturing Company. These include Daisy BB guns, toys, accessories, catalogs, and advertisements of all kinds dating back to 1890. I have recently published the book An Encyclopedia of Daisy Plymouth Guns, which can be seen at www.daisyencyclopedia.com.

Question
QUESTION: Cleaning up a Daisy BB gun Model 179 S.A. Peacemaker. It has the port on top, has the Patent # stamped on it, and it does not have a safety button. LOT NO. J974757. Can you tell what its manufacturing date is? Thanks.

ANSWER: Mark,

Based on the Lot No. and your description, I believe this pistol was made in September 1979.  The safey did not appear until 1980.  At least some of the variation you describe had a bronze colored feed follower thumb piece, trigger and hammer.  Does yours?

QUESTION: The parts you mention all appear to be pot metal castings, dull black color. No box or manual. Its in fine condition and belongs to my friends wife. She just recently re-discovered it in her attic, and asked me to fix 'er up! Thanks for the fast reply Gary.

Answer
Mark,

Thank you for the information re: your friend's gun.  I have added it to my database of these pistols.  These 179s have been a difficult type to get my arms around.

If you would like to know more about them, I recommend a small book called, "The Daisy Spittin' Image Model 179 BB Six Gun," by Lew Wood.

Gary
