First, a BB gun or a pellet gun IS NOT A TOY. These must be treated like any loaded gun. Always assume one is loaded and never point it at anything you do not intend to shoot. Especially, never point it at a person.
I can answer questions about Daisy products, including age and history. I can give production dates of most Daisy air rifles/BB guns and toys with a degree of accuracy within a year.
Experience I am an avid collector of products made by the Daisy Manufacturing Company. These include Daisy BB guns, toys, accessories, catalogs, and advertisements of all kinds dating back to 1890.
I have recently published the book An Encyclopedia of Daisy Plymouth Guns, which can be seen at www.daisyencyclopedia.com.

Question I found an old Red Ryder BB gun and I was wondering if you could give me a little backround on it. It has engraved on it #111 Model 40 pats 880,555 1,062,855. It has a little viewfinder and is made of metal and wood. It also came with a cleaning kit. What year was this made? Is there anything else unique or special about it I should know? Thanks!
Sara
Answer Sara,
The wood stock/forearm No. 111, Model 40 Red Ryder was made from 1940 until 1942 and after WW II also made from 1946 until 1950. After 1950, the stock/forearm were made of plastic. To the best of my knowledge, Daisy did not market a cleaning kit until 1956, so these two were probably not purchased together.
