Question
As I am just starting to enjoy hot wheels again and wish I had all the ones I had at age 14, I am unsure as to a couple of things about the cars.
1. is the date on the bottom of the car the actual year that individual car was made and released?
2. why are some made in China and some in Malaysia?
I have a 1957 Chevy with Mattel Inc. 1976 China on the bottom. And a Cobra with Mattel Inc. 1982 Malaysia on the bottom.  Thanks for your time.
Ed

Answer
Ed,
The date on the bottom of the car is the date that the casting (car design) was copyrighted. Those castings are used year after year.

Different cars are made in different country's for production reasons. Just like when Hot Wheels first came out in 1968, they were made in the US. There was so much demand for them that the US manufatures could not keep up, so they were them send to Hong Kong and they could kep up with the demands.
I cannot tell you the years of the cars that you stated unless I can see the colors and the wheels.....
