U. K. zowees and unkno
Hello Micheal, I have got a question that has been asked before, but I can't seem to find a correct answer. I know and have the six retail zowees issued in the U.S. and the 14 other zowees,7 that are retail and 7 that were given out at shell gas stations. I also have the six zowees that were issued in the U.K. Now I have come across different color version of Zowees that actually look like zowees, and some people say they are the mexico version. My question Is there a complete account of all of the different kind of zowees out there or a picture to compare with. I will attach the U.K. Zowees and the zowwes that I am curios about in the back ground thus far. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks Jim Gerber

Great question James.
The ones in the back are lets say "Rip Offs" in design. I remember them being out, but not made by Mattel. The body parts are different sizes too.
The ones on the left of the photo I have never seen before. It seems that more and more pieces are coming out of the closets and attics of collectors all over the world and we are seeing all kinds of stuff never seen before.
If you could send me some more photos to my email, I would like to have a look at the bases of the ones on the left and the ones in that back.

Here is all of the information that I have listed on page 24 of my book "Hot Wheels Accessories, The Ultimate Guide".

Zowees
Mattel & Shell Filling Stations got together on another promotion and introduced eight tiny cars called “Zowees”. These Zowees models were available from your participating Shell Dealers in small poly bags with a “paper fold out” containing information about these odd looking character cars. They were free with a fill up or .49 cents if you wanted to purchase them.
Zowees were also sold in retail stores later that year. There were 2, 3 & 4 pack carded Zowees. The 3 pack and 4 packs both originally sold retail for $1.49. There was even a Sears Exclusive 11 car set.

Between the two different sets, there are a total of 14 different style Zowees.
The retail Zowees command more money than the Shell promo’s. How can you tell Retail from Shell Zowees?
There were a few different ways to tell the Shell Zowees from the retail Zowees. Of course, if they are still in the poly bag, the Shell cars say “Zowees from participating Shell Dealers”, but if they are loose, the easiest way to tell the Shell Zowees was that only the Shell promos had a little piece of metal on the rear that looked like a trailer hitch. So, if you have the Shell Zowees and the retail Zowees you would have a total of 22 Zowees including the Variations.
That would be 14 retail plus the 8 Shell.
