Collectibles--Toys/rare 2006 hot wheels cars

Hi Mike,

My name is John Tykosh and I have been meaning to contact you for eight years now.  I have beeen collecting for about 15 years.  I tend to look for odd ball pieces either wheel variations, color variations or anything out of the ordinary.   I haven't found them in any publications.   I am not geting any younger so I need your advice.

These cars are all from the 2006 collector year.

The first two are from the Motown Metal series

1.  "# 087'"    '65 Mustang  Mint in package.   Blue color.  The whole engine block  is painted blue.   The inside of the hood has the normal blue paint overlay but the blue paint then continues down the middle  of the hood to the engine.     It has PR5's and was made in Malaysia.

2.  "#087"      '65 Mustang  Mint in Package     Blue color.  The engine is painted white.  The whole engine block and inside of the hood is painted white.  The normal blue paint overlay on the top front is there also.  It has PR5's and was made in Malaysia.

I feel they both have to be factory mistakes..  I know the white version had a white engine and the red had a red engine version.   But I cannot find documentation on these two anywhere.

3.  "#157"   1964 Buick Riviera  the basic car has PR5 wheels.  I have two cars with the 10 spoke wheels.  Chrome base made in Malaysia.   I feel  they ran out of the PR5 bases and these are transition pieces from the next Riviera that was to be produced.

I would grealy appreciate your input on these cars and would like to know if they are special or not and what the value might be.  Let me know if you need any other information.  I have a few other cars also but I will email them at another time.

Hi John,
I still have your email that you sent me with these questions. I'm sorry, but I get hundreds of emails every week and it takes me some time to get to them all.
I am thinking that the Mustang with the white painted engine is one of the cars that was repainted and that's why the engine is still white. That happens a lot. You can also look at the rivets on the base and it may show white paint too.
As for the green & red Rivieras, I only know of them coming with the BBS (wire)wheels.

There are no Educational Credentials available or needed for this area, just the need to be obsessed! But I guess writing 13 books and countless magazine articles on the subject and being inducted into the Diecast Hall of Fame as a Hot Wheels Historian should be credentials enough to make me an expert. And if I don't know the answer, I'll do me best to find the person that does.
