Question
QUESTION: I am hearing various stories about this model. I have two differing models: 1981, Malaysia, no porthole; and 1977, (country scratched off), with porthole. I am looking for confirmation that neither of these are the rumoured rare model. Both are yellow, with opaque blue windows/seats, and have the blue, red, and black tampo.

I very much appreciate your direction on this.

Sincerely, Brian

ANSWER: Hi Brian,
Please send me some photos and we can go from there.
Mike

QUESTION: Hi Mike,

Thanks very much for replying. Here are a few shots of the guys in question. I have other angles, but had not realised that the photo upload would be limited to two. I think the relevant/important details are within the pics (maybe the only further detail is that the front grill on the '77 w/porthole has two circle marks from the casting, and the grill on the '81 no-porthole is far better quality and without the circles).

Brian

Answer
Hi Brian,
The 1977 base car with port hole was produced in Hong Kong and was released in 1978. The 1981 Malaysia base car was released in 1982. Neither are rare and both valued at $10 each packaged. There is a red one with port hole and basic wheels that is rare. Are you thinking of that one?

Education/Credentials
There are no Educational Credentials available or needed for this area, just the need to be obsessed! But I guess writing 13 books and countless magazine articles on the subject and being inducted into the Diecast Hall of Fame as a Hot Wheels Historian should be credentials enough to make me an expert. And if I don't know the answer, I'll do me best to find the person that does.
