About DaisyBBGunner
Expertise
Please read my entire profile. First, a BB gun or a pellet gun IS NOT A TOY. These must be treated like any loaded gun. Always assume one is loaded and never point it at anything you do not intend to shoot. Especially, never point it at a person. I can answer questions about Daisy products, including age and history. I can give production dates of most Daisy air rifles/BB guns and toys with a degree of accuracy within a year.

Experience
I am an avid collector of products made by the Daisy Manufacturing Company. These include Daisy BB guns, toys, accessories, catalogs, and advertisements of all kinds dating back to 1890. I have recently published the book An Encyclopedia of Daisy Plymouth Guns, which can be seen at www.daisyencyclopedia.com.

Question
On bbairguns.com, I looked at chronology index at pictures for model 24 no. 30 and model 27.  They look like my gun, stock is shaped same way.  This is lever cocking and has 12" wood stock.  Rest of gun is 22".  Gun had been painted, I removed paint to find #s, they are not real clear.  It really looks like July 18 then it's hard to make out but 4 is clear.  After 00 am I right it say's SHOT?  It is vewry faint sometimes it looks like #s, maybe 8?0.  Why is'nt there a model #? I'll probably have to get my daughter to try and take pictures.  Sorry this is so difficult.

Followup To
I am unable to send pictures of the bb gun at this time.  After the patent# and july 18 there is some space and then it looks like an 04.  Possibly #s rubbed off in between.  Is this a patent from 1904?  Also I had my sights backwards, all the info is after the rear sight.  Clearly I see two large OO's, then in smaller letters it looks like it says shot?  I wondere if it had said 5oo shot or whatever #.  I cannot find model #, is there any where else that would be on gun?
Question -
I have a daisy gun from Plymouth, Michigan. It's similar to a model 24 or 27 but I see no model ##. It looks like it says Pat00111901-july 18 and below that it says others pending.  The end of the bb tube is about the size and thickness of a quarter.  On the end of the barrel it looks like it has a gold band going around it.Back sight is long and low with slight slope.  Front sight is different from others Iv'e seen, it has a 3 sided base that rises up to sight.  The forearm is thin narrow metal.  Behind front sight before daisy, looks like two large 0"s and maybe a couple of other #s. Any idea model # or year made? Thank you.  The bb tube screws inside of barrel not on outside like newer ones and sits flat.  The gold band around the end might of been added later, I can see on bottom where it was split and soldered.

Dave,

There is no single gun that I am aware of that meets all of the characteristics of your descriptions.  But maybe we have a terminology difference here.  I suspect that the two O's you decribe on either side of the word DAISY are actually bulls eyes.  This was a Daisy design on a number of their guns.  Usually, however, this was somewhere behind the REAR sight.
Is it possible you could email a photo to daisybbgunner@aol.com?  As they say, a picture, sometimes, really is worth a thousand words.

Dave,

Well, I can understand if you are unable to send photos, but, you have to admit that you are sort of giving me clues in dribs and drabs, here.

I know of no July 18, 04 patent.  Are you sure it doesn't say Jul 19, 04?

Even if this turns out to be true, we are still talking about a LOT of different Daisy models.

Would you care to offer some more clues, Dave?

Is it lever action?  Pump action?  Is the stock flat-sided or curved?  Is there a butt-plate?  Try hard, man.  Work with me, here.

Gary

Answer
Dave,

Until I see a photo, I think we've taken this one as far as we can.  Daisy used the same patent numbers on a good number of different guns, so you can't go by that.  Usually, there is a model number or just  "No." such as a No. 11, No. 12, etc.  These are normally on top next to the patent numbers.
