Question
I have over a dozen 1/24 scale NASCAR diecast cars that were mass produced for general retail (none of them are special edition, have moving parts, or have any special inserts etc.) They are mostly from 2001 and the 2002 series. All are mint in box and represent a wide variety of drivers both well known and obscure. I was wondering what general value these might have and if I am better in selling to a NASCAR or a Hotwheels collector.

This is a question that I get a lot and the answer I give is very frank and straight forward....
As far as value goes, it's all about supply and demand. If you have pieces that a lot of people want, and there is little supply, the price is high. If what you have is readily available, then the demand is low and therefor the price also.
I don't think that it matters if all of the pieces are all Hot Wheels or not. NASCAR collectors collect the driver and it doesn't matter who makes the car so you have a wider range of potential buyers.
Your best bet is to look up on ebay or any other auction site and see if what you have is already there and what it goes for. Of course, if there are a lot of them there, your chances are slim that you will get what you paid for it or even sell it at all.
You are also better off selling them one at a time rather that in a lot.
