I'm looking for recommendations for a durable, long lasting bubble machine.
and....does homemade bubble solution work as well as a commercial mix in machines?

I can't tell you a specific machine, but you can see a lot of them on ebay.com -- put "bubble machine" (keep the quotes) in their search engine. Most of the ones I've tried work well and are quite durable. You will want to look at ones that cost $40 or more to have a really durable one. There are some that have "Pro" in the name that are designed for more professional use.
Homemade bubble solutions should work just fine if you have the right ingredients. The Yahoo SoapBubbleFanciers group has frequently discussed additives that work well. You can check past postings at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/soapbubblefanciers/ for discussions about bubble solutions. You might also post a message there about the best kind of bubble machines for your needs as there are some members who focus on bubble machines.
