Collections Law/How to get civil judgement removed

Question
In October 8, 2007 i received court papers to attend court for a judgement that was filed against me for a vehicle.  Well i did not attend, so anyway they ended up repossesing to vehicle.  Can I get this judgement removed now that the car lot has the vehicle.  I have paid about 7,000 on the car and owed about 1,200.  I have sent the dealership owner letter stating that now that he is in possesion of the vehicle he must remove the judgement.  The owner claims he is not removing it until he sells it so that way it would not be considered a loss to him.  In, my opinion he has actually gained more than the blue book value and is still going to gain from it due to he is going to resell it for more than what it's worth again.  So, my question is what can i do for him to release this judgement, if there is something i can do, please help me!

Answer
Janie:

No, unfortunately, you cannot force him to release the judgment as satisfied.  Your amount owed is a "deficiency" and until that is satisfied, it will likely report as an unpaid public record on your credit reports.  This tradeline will preclude you from financing certain purchasing such as a home until it is satisfied.

You can request a re-investigation of the tradeline through the credit reporting agencies.  Target the date and docket number.  Albeit strange, it is not the car lot or even the courthouse which reports these rather, it is a company named Lexis Nexis.  Their records are often inaccurate and sometimes you can remove the public record in light of it.
