Question
We bought furniture from Art Van on 7/04.  We had the 4 years no interest,  However we fell benhind in making the required payments so they took the 0% interest away and are charging 22%.  I have made payments every month, just not always the minumum due.  Now HSBC has refered the account to a Corporate recievables which I assume is a debit collection firm.  What are my rights?  This is in Michigan

Answer
Angela,

If you haven't made the minimum payments as pursuant to the contract, the creditor has the right to refer this matter to a collection agency.

You have a right to hire a firm that will represent you when dealing with this collection agency.

How much is this debt, when was the last payment and the referral date to the collection agency?
