Question
My brother married and moved out about 6 months ago. He and his wife have been negligent in paying bills and notifying creditors of new addresses and phone numbers. When given the what current information is available, they still continue to call. One even threatened with sending the sheriff. Is there anything that can be done to stop them from calling?

Answer
Melissa:

Yes, under federal law; i.e., the FDCPA, you can compel debt collectors to stop calling via a written request stating that it is inconvient to call.  However, if it is an original creditor, the FDCPA doesn't apply.  You may check you state law to see if something will preclude them.
