Collections Law/medical bill

Question
My records show that I gave a 24 hr notice of an appt cancellation for an appt on 6/18/08 for a counselor for my son. I never received any billing until 11/28/08 stating that they are charging me for a missed appt. When I called they said they were just reviewing their records. How do I dispute my word against theirs? Also..I don't think it is ethical to wait until now 17 months later to tell me that I owe this. They said I could write a letter and they would review it and let me know if it would be taken off. Please advise. Thanks,D ebbie

Answer
Debbie:

The only thing I can suggest is that you submit a written communication to the medical provider contesting the charge.  If it is on your credit reports, dispute it through the credit reporting agencies as well.
