Collections Law/Collection and credit score

Question
My credit score is being affected a 2004 entry.  The entry is from a collection agency and it reflects "Collection Paid" and Balance of zero.  At the time, I disputed the bill and ended up agreeing to pay a part of the bill, and there was also agreement that no negative credit information would be reported.  The Collection Agency won't remove the entry since the information isn't inaccurate per se, but it is dragging down my credit score and costing me.  Is there any action I can take?

Answer
Ian:

I would dispute it through the credit reporting agencies and target the date of last activity or status or anything that is incomplete.  If verified, you would have the ability to sue under the FCRA and FDCPA.
