Collections Law/Debt Collector Gave Out Personal Information

Question
I had a debt collector call my parents house looking for me. My dad answered the phone told the guy he was my dad. Later in the conversation, the collector told my dad what the debt was for, the amount of the debt, and even gave my dad my bank account number! The answering machine at my parents house happened to pick up most of the conversation and is still on there as proof, since my dad almost didn't pick up the phone in time. If I have done my research correctly this is obviously not allowed?? What can I do about this?? I never gave this collector any permission to talk with anyone regarding my debt.

Answer
Amanda:

You certainly have a violation of the FDCPA.  You need to consult with an attorney in order to file a civil action.  If you're in Tennessee, feel free to contact me at Barnette Law Offices, LLC.
