Collections Law/Dental Bill from 2004

Question
My wife had dental work from 3/22/2004 to 6/30/2004 under her own Dental Insurance.  When we were married she went under my dental and we changed dentist in 7/2004.  We recently received a bill from her old dentist for a total of $250.00 for the services from 2004.  We asked for a detailed record on her history, all transactions are from 2004, four from 2005, no transactions in 2006, one in 2007.  I'm wondering why they still have this on their books, and haven't written it off.  After four years, would we be responsible for this payment?  The bill did lower to $226.00 when we received the Patient transcript.

Answer
Brad:

Yes, you would still be responsible for the debt.  Simply because a debt is old and perhaps, beyond the statute of limitations for judgment purposes, it doesn't expire generally.
