Question I was just served yesterday by the Sheriffs office, the amount is $7100. My husband and I divorced in January of this year and I have not had the money to pay them. I don't really have anything to pay them. I am working as a mortgage originator and last year my W2 was for about $8500.00. What will the judge do? Our credit score was over 700 before all of this happened.
Answer Deb:
If you do not respond to the Summons a Default Judgment will likely be rendered against you. If at all possible, try to work something out with them. Otherwise, your accounts could be subject to levy, your wages open to garnishment, and any property open to attachment.
