Collections Law - wage garnishment

Expert: Melissa Douros - 12/1/2008

Question
Can wages be garnished for medical bills in Michigan? Everyone I know says no & I would like to put this 1 to bed.

Answer
Sharon, it is a common misconception that many people go along with.  The truth is wages can always be garnished for medical bills.

Many say that medical bills don't count, people don't look at them the same way, you won't get denied a loan for unpaid medical bills.

They are treated the same as other bills.
