Question
I recieved a medical bill for 1,500.  I called to make payment arrangements with the hospital but we never came to an agreement.  They were supposed to give me a yes or no on the amount I told them I could pay monthly but never did.  I started sending them 40 dollars a month and three months later without any written warning or a voicemail I got a letter from a collections agency.  By law was the hospital at least supposed to send me a written letter, final notice?  All they have done thus far is send me updated statments subtracting the 40 dollar monthly payments I was making.  Thank you!

Answer
Jordan:

No, they're not obligated to give you an accounting.  Most do as a courtesy.  That being said, send a request for verification to the medical provider under the FCRA.  Send a request for validation to the debt collector pursuant to the FDCPA.
