Question
Hello,
A collection agency called my home phone and left a message on my answering machine saying "This message is for (name) if this is not (name) please disconnect. This call is to collect a debt any information obtained will be used for this purpose. Call us back at (number)."
So I was wondering if it is legal to announce that it is a collections call using my name on an answering machine. The person I live with and am not married to listened to the message. Can they do that?

Answer
Antonia:

Technically, if all the facts lined up perfectly, probably not.  However, no judge or jury would ever find them liable under the FDCPA for something so innoculuous.
