Question
I received a capitalone card in the mail in 2003, i cut it up and threw it away, 3 months later i started getting bills from them. I tried to contact them and was directed to a collection agency which when contacted told me i needed to call CapitalOne, and thus began a viscous 5 year cycle that has ended up on my credit report saying i owe Capitalone $500. Help me, please

Answer
Ms. Csonka:

Did you apply for the card and if so, did it have an annual fee?  We need to know the answer to these questions before we are able to properly respond.

In addition, in what state do you reside?  This is also important.
