Question
My 17 year old son received a call on his cell phone today asking for
my husband he said he was not home and who were they and how did they
get his number and they said it was none of his business and they would
call whenever they want until my husband calls back so i called and told
they they better stop harassing my minor child and they basically told
me to bad we had 1 week to pay 17,000 or get sued now were not even
sure what this is for because they told us it was for a discover card and
my husband never has had a discover card but they debt is from 1999
and we think it might be a secured loan we defaulted on but not sure but
is it legal for them to harass minor children and we live in Ohio i
thought stature of limitations was 7 years also it shows on both are
credit reports as a closed account in good standing what can i do?
Thank you

Answer
Denise:

The next time the call get their contact information.  Thereafter, send to them in writing a "request for validation" of the debt.  As for the statute of limitations in Ohio, it depends on the nature of the debt incurred; i.e., written, oral, open account, etc.
