Question Hello and thank you for taking tme for me.
There is an item from Asset Accept on my credit report as a charge off from yr 2004. I don't remember this account but I am expected to explain it to a mortgage co where I am applying for a home loan. How do I find it without an acct number or original company name before it was bought out. Again thank you/
Answer Andrea,
There are a couple of ways you can learn the original creditor.
1) On the credit report from the mortgage company, it should state who the original creditor is.
2) Call Asset Acceptance and find out who they say it is.
3) Write to them and dispute it. They will respond with a validation letter including the original creditors name. You can find a creditor dispute letter at http://www.henleycreditlaw.com/266/
