Collections Law - how can i stop a garnishment in michigan and what is the ststue of limitations in michigan on medical bills?

Expert: Jack Hall - 11/8/2009

Question
I recieved a summons for a garnishment in the mail for old hospital and dental bills. I sent the judge and lawyer a letter that I am off work with surgury to my foot and don't know my return to work date yet. I few days later I received a summons for a trial date. then a week after that i received a summons written out by hand from lawyer setting up payments and fines from medical bills from 6-7 years ago but was not signed or dated by judge and was sent from lawyers office. My short term disability insurance company is turning me down by phone, and two minutes latter my boss calls threatening me to come back to work. All this at once ,what should I do? thanks tim

Answer
Hello Timothy:
I guess its true what they say about when it rains it pours.   There is a way that you may be able to put this behind you fairly quickly and inexpensively.    The threatened garnishment and judgment can be stopped.  However, this would be much easier to talk about on the telephone.  You are welcome to call me of send me an email if you wish.   You can send an email with your phone number to jhfx@live.com or if you would like for me to send you my phone number, you can send me an email and I will be glad to give it to you so that you can call me at your convenience.
