Question
I live in Indiana...My Mother died...leaving no property, no will.  She had very little money in the bank..and my name was on the accounts with hers.  The bank has transferred all to my account. Mom had $25,000 life insurance.  We attached about $13,000 to the funeral home.  The rest was disbursed to me and my siblings by the insurance company.  The only property mom had was used furniture, clothing, etc which we split.  My question is..who is responsible for all of the bills which keep coming to my house?  There is about $20,000 worth of hospital, nursing home, ambulance, credit cards, etc.  thanks!

Answer
Dear Sherri,

Thank you for your question.

We're sorry to hear about your loss.

Generally the estate is held responsible.

In this matter obtain a death certificate and send a copy to each creditor.

Sincerely Yours,
