Question
hello my name is jade and i have a question. my husband and i are trying to get a loan but he has a judgment on his credit. the judgment is for a car that was reposed. from his first marriage. he lost his job and his exwife would not go get a job and theres more to the story but that does not matter. the judgment is for between 15-20 thousand dollars. i have the papers but don't really understand them. so i guess my question is how can we get rid of the judgment so we can get a loan to build our home. and would we have to pay the full amount? I live in North Carolina and were trying to buy land in South Carolina.

Answer
Dear Jade,

Thank you for your question.

Before you qualify for the property loan, the judgment must be paid, or vacated.

When vacating, your basically contesting the judgment and requesting a decision to dismissed. Contact a local consumer protection attorney for more information.

If you plan on paying the account, you can offer the company a lump sum less than the total amount owed to satisfy the judgment.

Good Luck
