Collections Law/Collecting from a past employer

Question
Hello,

I am inquiring about how to collect from unpaid wages from a past employer.  I worked for a speech therapy clinic for three years, and would sporadically receive late pay checks.  By the time I finally quit, I was almost two months behind in wages.

I went through all avenues through our state government, and have a judgement against this corporation, through the attorney general's office.  This judgement does not expire for ten years (however it's in a pile with numerous other past employees totaling tens of thousands of dollars).

The problem I am running into is that the owner of the corporation has recently changed the name of her business, and also put the business in her 22-year-old son's name.  My lawyer at the state's attorney general's office told me that under corporate law, there is very little further action I can take.  Is this true?

Any advice would be helpful,
Sara

Answer
Sara:

Unfortunately, she is right.  If you can periece the corporate veil you can go after the owner personally.  You will need to prove up an intentional tort.
