Question
Is it legal for a collection agency to continue to call you because a relative may owe money.  I keep saying the person they are calling does not live here but they continue to call.

Thanks

Answer
You should not have to put up with that.

The first step in taking care of this is getting all the information from the company calling. You can then send a certified mail letting them know that the person does not live there. It should be enough for you to verbally tell them but unfortunately many collection agencies to do comply.

You can use this sheet to gather the information and write the letter to them:

If they do not stop calling you after you send the certified letter, then you may want to contact a consumer attorney like our firm or by going to www.naca.net
