Collections Law/Use of Social Security

Question
As a rule, should an opposing attorney be allowed to know your social security number by asking for it in a deposition, even in a lien foreclosure lawsuit?

Answer
Richard,

I am not sure there is a law against this. They can skip trace you and get your social without your consent. Finally, with holding this information is not going to stop it from going on a credit report.

Finally, what does the attorney that you hired to accompany you to the deposition say? I would defer to whatever opinion he has.

If you do not have an attorney going to the deposition with you, I would seriously consider it. I have seen very smart people get tripped up under oath or be asked questions they should not.
