Question
So I have a debt with a company from a car accident. I hired an attorney but he has not responded to the debt collector so the debt collector called me saying that since he has not heard from the attorney they could contact me again. They didn't ask for payment but rather just trying to confirmt that the attorney still represents me. Can they do this?
Dear Jim,
If the attorney didn't contact the collection agency within a "reasonable amount of time" the debt collector can contact you. The law however doesn't define a "reasonable amount of time".
It's best that you contact your attorney and request she/ he contacts the debt collector.
