Question
I had a person call me regarding a payday loan that I defaulted on a couple of years ago.  They called my work and told my fellow co-worker that a warrant had been issued for my arrest and I needed to call back right away.  I called and they said that I owed over a $1,000.00, but they would settle for $800.00 in payments.  They said that if I didnt pay they would have me arrested.  I set up payment arrangements since I was scared.  I paid the first $400, but grew suspicious when other people called me from there and couldnt find my payment and beat around the bush when I questioned things.  They even went as far as hanging up on me when I asked questions.  They refuse to send me any documentation regarding who they are, what I owe, and who I owe it to.  I want to know if they can continue to call me and threaten me with warrants and police.  What about them telling my coworker about a warrant being issued for me. What should I do?

Answer
Kelly:

This is a rather egregious violation of the FDCPA.  I would consult with a consumer attorney if the entity calling was a third party debt collector.
